The Back Story:

Carysfort Reef

The Carysfort Reef lighthouse was built in 1852.  It replaced a lightship that had marked the spot from 1825.  It was the first of several screwpile lighthouses to be built along the Florida Keys. It is located within the confines of the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. It remains an active aid to navigation under the ownership of the U.S. Coast Guard.

About the Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper's Log, a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
