The Back Story:

Crooked River

For just shy of 100 years the Crooked River Lighthouse stood as a beacon, guiding timber ships as well as local fishermen through the treacherous pass along Florida’s Panhandle.  Built in 1895, this iron and steel structure replaced the lighthouse on Dog Island. It remained as a navigational aid until 1995 when the Crooked River Lighthouse was decommissioned by the U.S. Coast Guard.

About the Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper's Log, a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
