The Back Story:
Egmont Key
The current Egmont Key Lighthouse was completed in 1857 near the northern end of Egmont Key and about ninety feet inland from the former tower. The tower stands 87 feet above sea level. Shortly after created, the American Civil War began and control of the lighthouse was taken by the Union. The light was automated in 1989 and is maintained by the Florida Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
as a current aid to maritime navigation.
About the Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper's Log, a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
