The Back Story:
Hereford Inlet
The Hereford Inlet lighthouse is on the south end of the Hereford Inlet, leading from the Atlantic to the Intra-Coastal Waterway linking Maine to Florida. First used by the 17th century whalers to haul in their catches, the Inlet’s use as a haven to mariners greatly increased as travel and shipping along the coast became more prevalent. It was decommissioned in 1964 and now serves as a historic landmark for New Jersey.
About The Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper’s Log a
publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
