The Back Story:
Ontonagon
Jupiter inlet, with its brightly painted red bricks and 105 step tower, is the oldest structure in Palm Beach County, Florida. The construction site was chosen in 1853, but due to the Third Seminole Indian War the tower was not completed and lit until July 10, 1860. The lighthouse stands 108-feet tall atop a 48-foot mound. It was converted to electricity in 1928 and automated. It is maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard as a current aid to maritime navigation.
About the Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper's Log, a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
