The Back Story:

Rock of Ages

This lighthouse was constructed in 1908 and first lit in 1910. It’s 117-feet high and has a range of 17 miles high. Consisting of a strip of exposed rock 50 feet wide and 210 feet long, with it highest point some sixteen feet above the water, the light lies two and a half miles off the Isle Royale. It was automated in 1978. This light is maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard as a current aid to maritime navigation.

About the Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper's Log, a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
