The Back Story:
St. Simons
The original St. Simons lighthouse was destroyed during the Civil War, when Confederate soldiers blew it up with dynamite to prevent it from falling into Union hands. The present tower was built in 1872. The original 3rd order Fresnel lens is still in use. The lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation and is operated as a museum.
About The Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper’s Log a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
