The Back Story:
The Symbolic Turtle
A great deal of mythology exists in regard to the turtle. They are often representative of strength, long life and perseverance.
In Chinese mythology, the turtle or tortoise is the symbol of unchanging stability and longevity. Perhaps that has something to do with the fact that turtles have an extraordinary sense of time and location. They are highly sensitive to the Earth’s magnetic field and use it to navigate.
Sea turtles are found in coastal bays and lagoons in warm and temperate waters throughout the world. Some populations nest and feed in the same general area, while others are known to migrate through open seas for hundreds of miles between nesting and feeding grounds.
