The Back Story:
Barnegat
The Barnegat Lighthouse is the second tallest lighthouse in the U.S. It was commissioned January 1, 1859. The tower light stands 165 feet above sea level. It remained a first-class navigational aid until August of 1927, when the “Barnegat Lightship” was anchored 8 miles off the coast. The tower’s light was reduced over 80 percent, but was not extinguished until January of 1944
About the Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper's Log, a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
