The Back Story:

Fairport Harbor

The Old Fairport Harbor Lighthouse sits at the mouth of the Grand River, east of Cleveland. The lighthouse, built in 1825 and rebuilt in 1871, was a safe haven for sailors as well as refugees traveling along the Underground Railroad. The lighthouse was replaced by the current Fairport Harbor Lighthouse in 1925. In 1945, The U.S. Coast Guard turned over ownership of the lighthouse where it now serves as a maritime museum.

About The Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper’s Log a
publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
