The Back Story:
Harbor of Refuge
The current caisson-style Harbor of Refuge lighthouse was built in 1926 to replace an earlier lighthouse. It is located in Lewes Harbor on the Delaware Bay. The light was automated in 1973. It remains an active aid to navigation and is owned by the Delaware River and Bay Lighthouse Foundation. The Foundation conducts public tours of the lighthouse.
About The Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper’s Log a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
