The Back Story:
Mile Rocks
The Mile Rocks lighthouse sits in San Francisco Bay. This caisson lighthouse was built in 1906. Its original 3rd order Fresnel lens was transferred to the Old Point Loma lighthouse in 1966. At that time, the lantern and top three stories of the lighthouse were removed and a helipad was placed on top of the lighthouse. A smaller light sits off on the side of the helipad and remains as an active aid to navigation.
About The Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper’s Log a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
