The Back Story:
Owl's Head
The Owl's Head Lighthouse marks the entrance to Rockland Harbor on Penobscot Bay in Maine. It was built in 1826 under the authorization of President John Quincy Adams. It is only 30 feet tall, yet sits 100 feet above the water. The fourth order Fresnel lens, installed in 1856, is still in use. The light was automated in 1989. Located in Owls Head State Park, the lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation
About the Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper's Log, a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
