The Back Story:
Piney Point
Piney Point Lighthouse served as a beacon of safety for mariners on the Potomac River from the time it was built in 1836 until it was decommissioning in 1964. It is one of the oldest of the 11 original lighthouses built on the Potomac River and the oldest one of only four remaining. The Piney Point tower is 35-feet tall and painted white with the lantern painted red.
About The Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper’s Log a
publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
