The Back Story:

Ponce De Leon

Originally known as Mosquito Inlet, the name was changed to Ponce De Leon in 1927. The lighthouse is the second tallest brick lighthouse in the U.S. (Cape Hatteras being the tallest).  The light station was established in 1835, the current tower was built in 1885. The Ponce De Leon Inlet Lighthouse Preservation Association, founded in 1972, manages the property and museum. The lighthouse has been designated a National Historic Landmark.

About the Artist:
Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper’s Log a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
