The Back Story:

Reedy Island Rear Range

On February 16, 1904 the light from this station was first lit, shown from atop a 100-foot tall temporary lantern post with hoisting apparatus. Quite some time would pass before the permanent light tower would be in operation. The structure was complete and its lantern lit for the first time on July 27, 1910. The light tower remains much the same today except that it now has a light that’s visible throughout the day. The lighthouse has undergone major repair work and maintenance work, but still stands as a current aid to navigation.

About The Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper’s Log a
publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
