The Back Story:
Rockland Breakwater
The Rockland Breakwater lighthouse was built in 1902. It replaced a pole light that had been out on the end of the breakwater. The lighthouse was automated in 1964. In 1998, ownership of the lighthouse was transferred to the City of Rockland and the Friends of Rockland Breakwater was formed. The lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation and is opened periodically for public tours.
About The Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper’s Log a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society
(www.uslhs.org).
