The Back Story:
Saugerties
A landmark beacon on the Hudson River, the Saugerties Lighthouse is a red-brick lighthouse built in 1869 at the mouth of the Esopus Creek. It stands 46 feet high, on the center of small man-made island, just off shore. Its Coast Guard service was ended in 1954, when it was decommissioned. Currently it is managed by the Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy which purchased the lighthouse in 1986.
About The Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper’s Log a
publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
