The Back Story:
Red Cloud - (Makhpiya-luta) - 1822-1909 - Tribe: Oglala (Lakota/Sioux)
Red Cloud was a principal chief of the Oglala Teton Sioux of Pine Ridge reservation, the largest band of the Sioux nation, and probably the most famous and powerful chief in the history of the tribe.
As a warrior and a statesman, Red Cloud’s success in confrontations with the United States government marked him as one of the most important Lakota leaders of the nineteenth century.
