The Back Story:
Snow Surfing
Snowboarding was inspired by surfing and skateboarding in the USA during the 1960s and became a Winter Olympic Sport in 1998. The first modern snowboard was the "Snurfer" created in Muskegon, Michigan by Sherman Poppen for his children in 1965. It was a skateboard without wheels, nor did it have bindings, and had an attached handheld rope for maneuvering.
Pioneers such as Dimitrijie Milovich, Jake Burton, and Tom Sims, improved snowboard designs in the following years, helping to make snowboarding the new popular winter sport it is today.
