Trout Brook
The Back Story:
An Angler's Favorite.
The Brook “trout” is actually a char – both are closely related members of the Salmonidae family. It is also called the speckled trout because of its coloration – light shades of green to brown with distinctive blue-haloed red dots along the flanks. Other characteristics that differentiate the brook from other trout are their large mouth, white edges on the lower fins and fine, small scales.
The Brook can live in a variety of aquatic environments – as long as the waters are cold and fresh. They seek the clearest and purest streams, creeks, lakes and spring ponds in their native range along the east coast of North America, including the Great Lakes.
They are a popular game fish for recreational fishermen.
