The Back Story:
Zebra
Large migratory herds of zebras live on the grassy plains of Africa. Although their bodies and hoofed feet resemble the horses and donkeys to which they are most closely related, certain distinguishing characteristics – white stripes, tufted tails, large ears and bristly-haired erect manes – give them their own unique look.
Zebras can run up to 40 mph to escape their predators – lions, hyenas and cheetahs. Their diet is mainly grass, and they graze close to watering holes because they need a lot of water.
Zebras work together to protect each other when the herd is attacked, facing predators in a semi-circle to confuse them. Although their striped coats appear much the same, no two zebras have the same pattern.
