Horse Trotting
The Back Story:
Hot to Trot
A horse trot is a two-beat diagonal gait, in which the diagonal pairs of legs move forward at the same time. Trotting is a measured science that has been broken up into several speeds and types. For instance, a jog trot is slow and relaxed; a collected trot requires high steps and shorter strides; a working trot is the natural stride of the horse while under saddle; and a road trot is a similar gait a racing stride but more suitable for show arenas. The average speed of a trotting horse ranges from 5-10 miles per hour, a pace that the horse can keep for extended periods of time.
