The Back Story:
Alki Point
The lighthouse is located at the pinnacle of shipping traffic for modern-day Seattle. It was built and first lit in 1913, replacing a hanging lens lantern that had previously aided navigation. In 1970, the old lantern, on display in the fog signal building, was stolen, but eventually surfaced a few years later and was returned to the Coast Guard by a Good Samaritan. Alki Point Lighthouse still remains as an active navigational aid.
About the Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper's Log, a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
