The Back Story:

Eastern Point

The first Eastern Point Lighthouse was lit January 1st, 1832. It stood 30 feet high and was said to be of poor construction. When the railroad came to Gloucester in 1847, fishing trade began to boom and Eastern Point became one of the world’s largest routes. A new 34-foot lighthouse was built in 1848 then rebuilt again in 1880 at a final standing height of 36-feet. This Lighthouse is maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard as an aid to maritime navigation. .
About The Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper’s Log a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
