The Back Story:
Endangered Species, Giant Panda - (Ailuropoda melancoleuca)
Native only to China, where as few as 1,600 live in the wild, the panda is one of the world’s most popular animals – and one of the most threatened species in the animal kingdom.
The panda appeals to animal lovers the world over with an endearing face and playful antics, by nature, pandas are reclusive and are rarely seen in the dense bamboo forests they inhabit. Its diet consists primarily of bamboo stalks. Pandas have a life span of an approximately 20 years. Source: World Wildlife Fund
