The Back Story:
Hibiscus
In Tahitian lore, a hibiscus flower worn over the right ear shows that a person is looking for a mate. And if over the left ear, a mate has been found.
In Hawaii, the Hibiscus is the state flower and is believed to have originated as a small shrub in southern China and taken to Hawaii by Polynesian explorers.
Most varieties of the Hibiscus last only a day, blooming in early morning and wilting by evening. From 2 inches to 12 inches in size, the blossoms have minimal or no fragrance but are valued by the islanders both for their beauty and medicinal qualities.
