The Back Story:
Baltimore Harbor
Located to mark the entrance to the Baltimore channel at the mouth of the Magothy River, the Baltimore Lighthouse was completed in 1908. It is one of only four Chesapeake Bay lighthouses to have been built in the 20th century. It stands 82 feet below sea level and 38 feet above. Automated in 1964, it is still an active aid to navigation.
About the Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper's Log, a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
